Treat You Right!

Lucky13Welcome to Heather Long’s Lucky 13 Trick or Treat Blog Hop! I’m a treat! Actually, this is ironic. Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I’m usually working and miss it! If I’m home, the dog barks her fool head off, so someone has to be on dog duty, someone has to be on candy duty, and someone has to be on kid duty…and there are only two grown-ups to go around. I also tend to roll my eyes and groan at the cost of making or buying a costume that will be worn once then strewn in parts and pieces around the house for YEARS to come. As for the candy…I’m a pastry chef. I’m not in the least bit snobbish about my sweets, but there are a lot of sweet things in this house most of the time. When you throw three bags of candy into the mix, I become THAT mom. The sweets police, or, as I have affectionately become known as around here…

SPIRIT CRUSHER!

IMG_0985But don’t be sad for my poor kids, I married a guy who puts up one of these every year. And wears a Halloween costume to work. The kids are fine, well-steeped in the American tradition. And since I eschew the holiday, they never suspect me of stealing their candy. 😉

20 Replies to “Treat You Right!”

  1. Oh, you’re a pastry chef! Yum! And yeah, we always have to have someone on dog duty here, too. Poor things hate all the knocking on the door. If we time it right, we can set up in the garage and then no one ever rings the bell and it does help. Thanks for joining the hop!

  2. I absolutely loved reading your little rant about Halloween. My mother always felt the same way. I think that is so neat that you’re a pastry chef. I can imagine all the yummy treats in your home. =)
I don’t think I’ll be dressing up this year. I might get some kitty ears and wear them though.
    Thanks for the giveaway! =)

  3. No dressing up in our house this year, we also have to be on dog duty when we hand out candy, the dog raises such a stink, we are worried he will scare away all the little kids.

  4. I’m not going to dress up. I will be dressing up my pup though. That always cracks me up.
    Thanks!

  5. I’m dressing up with my children. I love that part of the holiday. I DON’T love spending money on candy. This is the one time of year my kids are allowed to eat their fill of candy (with sugar). They are on the ADHD diet, so their sugar consumption is limited. I make sugar-free treats, or treats made with other forms of sugar that they can tolerate, either with fruits or with coconut palm sugar, or other such sugars. And we have major dog duty, with 5 small in-house dogs, and 4 out of 5 wanting to escape through the front door on this night of all nights from HELL, it is a recipe for disaster. To buy candy for all the trick or treaters who would come around would cost $75-100 and that simply isn’t in out budget. ARRRGGGHHH! Plus, many parents keep their children at it far past common decency and ignore the old “no porch light means no candy” rule. It’s just cheaper to take my kids out, buy them each a bag of candy and say, “Eat til you puke.” And I agree entirely about the costume expenditure, as well. Last year, my son had destroyed most of his before Halloween. This year, I’m procrastinating…

  6. I am not dressing up but I do enjoy handing out the candy and seeing all the imaginative costumes. I love pumpkin! Thank you for the recipes.

  7. I’m not dressing up this year — we’re going to see the Nine Inch Nails in concert (Trent!!).

    Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

  8. Looks like the not-dressing-uppers are winning! I’m still pondering whether I should let my class go home early on Halloween… Think I should crush their spirits, lol?

  9. Sadly, I never get the opportunity to dress up for Halloween. But I sure would like to.

Thank you for being part of the hop.
